God in the brain

A recent study for the theology think-tank Theos found that 53% of Britons believe in life after death, 55% in heaven and 70% believe in the human soul.

We know that at least half of the human brain is committed to logic, facts and certainty; yet these statistics demonstrate that the majority of us hold beliefs for which there is no proof. In this article we therefore look at how it is possible for a single human brain to deal with such apparent conflict and at the questions of how we believe and why we believe.
